Cessation of Cryotherapy Services in Surgery

We would like all patients to be aware that, due to restrictions in the NHS funding of certain procedures, from 31st July 2017, Mayford House Surgery will no longer be able to provide cryotherapy.

If you previously received cryotherapy from the surgery, there are some other treatments available. These are detailed below.

Warts & Verrucas
Warts and verrucas will often resolve by themselves with no treatment after a period of time. Treatment of warts and verrucas with cryotherapy has been shown to be no more effective than treatment with over the counter preparations. It is recommended that you speak to your local pharmacist if you are keen to explore the available treatment options.

Actinic Keratosis, Solar Keratosis, “Sun Damage”
As cryotherapy is no longer available, please speak to your GP about further treatment options. These include the application of prescription medication (creams) which should help remove the lesions which you used to have treated with cryotherapy. If you ever notice any change in the appearance of your solar keratosis, please speak to your GP for further advice.
